USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) (formerly CVA-67), the only ship of her class, is an aircraft carrier, formerly of the United States Navy. Considered a supercarrier, she is a variant of the Kitty Hawk class, and the last conventionally-powered carrier built for the Navy, as all carriers since have had nuclear propulsion. Commissioned in 1968, the ship was named after John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States. John F. Kennedy was originally designated a CVA, for fixed-wing attack carrier, however the designation was changed to CV, for fleet carrier.

The USS John F. Kennedy had a notable combat history, beginning with its involvement in the Gulf of Sidra Incident in 1981, where its F-14 Tomcats shot down two Libyan Su-22 fighters in international waters, challenging Libya’s territorial claims. In 1986, the Kennedy played a critical role in Operation El Dorado Canyon, launching aircraft for air strikes against Libyan military targets in retaliation for the Berlin discotheque bombing.

During the Gulf War in 1990-1991, the Kennedy participated in Operation Desert Storm, where its aircraft conducted sorties against Iraqi targets, aiding in the liberation of Kuwait. Later, in the early 2000s, the carrier was deployed for Operation Enduring Freedom, launching missions over Afghanistan to dismantle terrorist networks post-9/11. The USS John F.
